How to Work Effectively in a Team

These days Working in teams is almost unavoidable. Often you’ll be asked to work in teams in school, at office or sometimes when participating in a volunteer activity. Specific and clear communication is the key to successfully working in teams or groups, whether for short term or long term projects. Here are some tips for accomplishing these goals: •    Stay neutral •    Do not let the meeting run too long, even if it’s going well •    Express out loud what seems to be happening •    Do not let snide comments, put downs, etc slide by without comment •    After a person has been quiet for awhile, ask them for their opinion Distribute The Work – It is a good idea to distribute the work to the team members according to their field of expertise. By this way, you’ll be able to make the most out of the group. Be a Good Listener – Hear out what team members have to say about approaching and solving the issue. Put their thoughts under serious consideration. Do Your Best – To work well within the group do your best. Maybe you think that other team members are a bit annoying, or lazy, or stupid.
